What is 'true' love?

To answer this question from a Biblical perspective, let's look at (KJV)John 3:16

For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

More often that not, the majority of the world 'falls in love' due to a multitude of reasons, be it physical or non-physical attraction, an emotional upwelling within your hearts with the notable characteristics such as the 'fluttering' of the heart or 'dizziness' like fangirls at concerts.

"Love is a very powerful emotion. It motivates much of our lives. We make many important decisions based on this emotion, and even get married because we feel that we are “in love."

The Bible teaches us that true love is not an emotion that can come or go, but a decision that will go a long way, in a marriage - a lifetime on earth, and God's love for us - for eternity. Emotions come and go, very much evident by mood swings, the 'feeling' of love is no different.

Since God promised everlasting life, this would only mean that His love is everlasting as well. If not, IF God changes His mind and stop loving us (while we are still on earth), everlasting life would only be a false promise. Therefore, before we were even born, God had made the choice to love us all the way, despite our failings as man to obey and submit to His glorious self. His love for us is marked by a decision: the decision to send His only Son to die for our sins.

"True biblical love is loving someone all of the time, not just when you are 'in love'."

But let's not limit love to intimate relationships but expand it to encompass everyone around you. Will you love and forgive someone who has wronged you? The Bible says in (KJV)Luke 6:35

But love ye your enemies, and do good, and lend, hoping for nothing again; and your reward shall be great, and ye shall be the children of the Highest: for he is kind unto the unthankful and to the evil.

Ending with a familiar passage in (ESV)1 Corinthians 13:4-8

4 Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant
5 or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful;
6 it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth.
7 Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.
8 Love never ends.

Indeed, let our love for humanity never end just as God's love never will.
