The lady who wanted money

This continues on from the previous post, I had happily purchased my brand new spanking ESV Study Bible. Just before I reached the mrt station, at a zebra crossing, the only way to cross that particular road due to the railings surrounding both sides of the road, I got intercepted by a young lady. She was in normal shirt and pants. She asked for my time and that I won't get angry by what she about to tell me so I nodded my head.

[In chinese]
"Hi, I am currently unemployed, I need some money to buy food for my younger brother, sister and mother. Could you just help me out? Do you understand chinese? You understand what I'm saying, right?"

I was hesitant, why is this young lady begging for money to buy food in broad daylight, isn't our donations to charity suppose to help people like this who are in need? I asked whether she was staying nearby and whether there's a nearby hawker center that she wants to buy food from.

"I just came here for interview to work at a coffeeshop, I only study till primary 6. My father is divorced from us, my mother has diabetics. Could you help me out? I need to buy beehoon for them(younger sibilings) to eat."

Great! I replied. Let's go to the coffeeshop to buy beehoon then. She looked reluctant.

"But I am in financial difficulty..could you help me out? I need some money too."

I expressed willingness to buy the food for her but when she saw another man coming from behind, she chased after him and told me not to be offended.

So I ended up not giving her any money. Was I being harsh? No, I was willing to buy her food and perhaps find out whether her nearest MP can help her out with her fiancial situation since she was unemployed and her mother or sibilings doesn't seem to be able to work as well. However, her actions lead me to believe that the purpose of wanting the money wasn't to buy food.

1) I offered to get food for her. She wanted money as well. Since I was willing to fulfill half of her requests, wouldn't she be more than happy to take up that offer rather than to forfeit it and want BOTH the meal and the monetary aid from another person?

2) She stood at the other side of the zebra crossing, the exit from one side of the road to the other. There is no other way of crossing due to railings on both sides. It was a perfect location to 'trap' people alone whether they like it or not. Regardless of whether she was really in need or not, this shows that she was relatively smart despite her Primary 6 education level.

3) She abandoned me for another man when I only offered to buy food for her. Food was not the priority. Money was.

Conclusion:

She might have needed the money for something else. Something that I probably won't know about, drugs, alcohol, to pay debts, bail, to make a quick buck. I do not know. But I do know that I did not in my capacity, made her or her supposed siblings and mother hungry as I offered to buy her food.

She rejected my food =(
