What was it? The fear of being alone? Yes, and the memory that floated out is documented as below:
Many moons ago, perhaps when I was around 4 to 6 years old, my one and only younger sister fell ill. Or was it when she was born while I was 3? I can't really remember the exact details. However, what transpired was this : my parents had to go to the hospital one night and left me alone at night. Before they left, they left the hospital's number for me to call just in case a fire broke out, spiderman dropped by or superman flew through the ceiling. Right. So they left. If I'm not wrong, I went to sleep and suddenly woke up in the middle of the night. Entering my parent's rooms, I discovered that they were not back yet. The whole house suddenly felt big, empty and cold in darkness. I vividly remember that while reaching for the cordless phone on top of the speaker in the living room, the only light shone from the corridor's lights that scatters from beneath the main door. As a little kid, it took me a few times to get the number to connect. Upon connecting, I just mumbled 'ma...' over and over again. I believed the nurse on the other line tried to coaxed me into telling me a room number or perhaps my parent's name but kids don't really remember this kind of stuff(or it's just me). Mum is mum and dad is dad. Finally, she hung up in desperation. I do not remember what happened next. Perhaps I went back to sleep. Or perhaps I opened the main door and stared out, waiting for my parents to arrive home. Perhaps I closed the door then and sat there waiting, amusing myself with the scattered light from beneath the door. What I do know was that I had never felt more alone than that moment in my life.
However, as Christians, we are never alone for God is always with us! Even if our best friends or family forsake us, He will never forsake us as He has promised not only to the biblical characters but also to us :
Hebrews 13:5 (King James Version)
Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.
Deuteronomy 31:6 (King James Version)
Be strong and of a good courage, fear not, nor be afraid of them: for the LORD thy God, he it is that doth go with thee; he will not fail thee, nor forsake thee.
Joshua 1:5 (King James Version)
There shall not any man be able to stand before thee all the days of thy life: as I was with Moses, so I will be with thee: I will not fail thee, nor forsake thee.
1 Chronicles 28:20 (King James Version)
And David said to Solomon his son, Be strong and of good courage, and do it: fear not, nor be dismayed: for the LORD God, even my God, will be with thee; he will not fail thee, nor forsake thee, until thou hast finished all the work for the service of the house of the LORD.
God will never leave us to face our battles alone. He will be there to help us, advise us, and comfort us through His Word (the Bible), through sermons, through verses or even through advice from friends. The human tendency is to ignore God and try to solve the problem on our own. It is better if our first reaction is to turn to God in prayer and wait on him.
“Wait on the Lord: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart:
wait, I say, on the Lord.” Psalm 27:14
wait, I say, on the Lord.” Psalm 27:14
There's also fear of losing someone, fear of death, fear of the future, disappointment, commitment and being looked down upon. Will not elaborate upon them for now. Might come back in the near future. This post took 1 hour and I need to finish two tutorials!
